At the stage with Book 2 where I’m mostly cutting and reshaping the narrative. This week I’ve whittled 114K words down to 83K words, which I then need to cut by a further 10K words, as well as writing a few new scenes (2-3K words). Two weeks til deadline. I can do this, right? 😐

Wrote the final chapter of Book 2 today, after a night of trying to figure out how to end things on an uplifting note. Relief to see the novel come full circle, its ending mirroring the beginning in a happy/sad way. I may have cried a little too 🥲

Today’s writing session flowed (for a change!) 2000 words in the bag by lunchtime. Reached the climax of the present day timeline and wrote the big mystery reveal (surprising myself in the process). Now sat outside the writing shed, reading this beauty by Matt Cain

Today’s writing session ended on a pretty dark scene, so it was either sit on the the beach and have a beer, or watch something light and fluffy on TV. The beach (and the beer) won

Some days the words flow and I’m finished by lunchtime. Today is not one of those days. It’s 6.30pm. I’m still in my shed with 200 words to go, but bloody determined to hit today’s target

Lots of people ask me what they can do to support their favorite authors or books they love and honestly, outside buying the book, the best thing you can do is spread the word - Amazon, Waterstones or Goodreads review, tweet, post or just a good old fashioned tell a friend!

Look who I spotted in the spoken word section of Whitstable library. Those of you who’ve already met Margaret Small will know just how much audiobooks have opened up a world of stories for her. I can’t help thinking about how proud she would be to have her name on a CD…
