At tonight's hustings, I'll be speaking up for rent controls. It is disgraceful that the Labour candidate, once again, refuses to attend. People in Islington North deserve to know what they are voting for - and a vote for me is a vote to treat housing as a human right!

Since the 1990s we’ve had a 7% net gain in housing stock, and yet a 300% increase in rents. But sure, let’s just keep doing the same thing and hope it gets better, instead of restoring the rent controls that Thatcher abolished. independent.co.uk/news/uk/labour…

“We know for a fact that rent controls were a great success in Britain for the best part of a century” – an interesting read from Nick Bano for The Telegraph telegraph.co.uk/money/property…

A brilliant contribution to our understanding of the housing crisis. Making Marx, housing law and the misery of renting in modern Britain incisive, readable and amusing in places is no easy task! Well done Nick Bano

I want to hear the ‘left YIMBY’ take on these: What happens when we build 300,000 homes a year? What will the material consequences be for the public? How will it put downward pressure on prices? The left needs a coherent narrative on housing and planning very quickly!

I'd add to this Chris Grayling's central role in creating the Crown Court backlog. (As well as the less visible slow collapse of the civil justice system, which - apparently - is the reason why we're not allowed the Renters Reform Bill yet).
