.Los Angeles Unified Board will vote on my reso to create phone-free schools on 6/18. The research is clear: widespread use of cell phones and social media is harmful to mental health, distracts from learning, and stifles in-person interaction. Read the reso at bit.ly/CellPhoneReso

Today, the Los Angeles Unified Board approved my resolution to protect mental health & learning with a phone-free school day. Students deserve a chance to engage in face-to-face play and learning and be protected from the more harmful effects of smart-phones. dailynews.com/2024/06/18/lau…

I have long been advocating for innovative new ways to increase access to early learning opportunities—and am thrilled that our Los Angeles Unified early ed centers are expanding income eligibility requirements so that more families qualify for enrollment. More details coming soon!

We got a look at the kinds of support programs available to our foster youth/students experiencing homelessness—including academic support like tutoring, as well as basic needs like transportation, food, showers, clothing, laundry services, and short-term temporary housing.

Last year, LAUSD's student achievement numbers increased for every student group except for foster youth—so it's clear we need to do more to support our most vulnerable student populations and advocate for the resources we need to help every student reach their full potential.
