Some thoughts on the pending C4 documentary about online hate crime disabled people face. TW: ableist language. There's a bit of a pile on directed at one person going on, and I wanted to add a different perspective. This has to do with the title, but specifically the reaction

Causing a pile-on on someone for addressing a word that she herself gets abused with people slurring her with is not ok. Yes the word is hurtful, it hurts all of us with learning disabilities, is she calling us it? No Is she calling our children r*tards either? No Stop this hate

I think one thing missing in the media response to this is the opinion of people with learning disabilities. If you have an LD and would like to write on this, do pitch* to [email protected] (*two paragraphs outlining what you’d argue and why you’re well placed to write it)

I’m extremely proud of the work me and my team have been doing for the past year on this. The public outrage today in response to these proposals has been amazing to witness. Thanks to everyone who is lending support 💪

My latest: Major airlines in the UK are charging some disabled passengers double to fly, against official guidance Passengers with mobility issues must often buy a full-price ticket for a personal care assistant, making flying unaffordable for many #DisabilityTwitter #AirTravel

I have been struggling to speak about the horrors occurring in Gaza. My master’s dissertation was on the impact of conflict and occupation on the mental health of Palestinian children.

Language is a personal thing, some people will identify as being a disabled person and some will prefer person with a disability. Majority of disabled folks don’t use euphemisms, because they know it’s a neutral term so no need to sugarcoat it as it doesn’t need sweetening!
