"The best Major League ballplayer I ever saw was Willie Mays. Ruth beat you with the bat. Ted Williams beat you with the bat. Joe DiMaggio beat you with the bat, his glove & his arm. But Willie Mays could beat you with the bat, with power, his glove, his arm & with his running.

There's this guy at the SF Park who has a booth about the Negro League, and I always stopped by to chat when I was living out there.

The core pitching staff for the 1949 Baltimore Elite Giants in front of their scoreboard at East Baltimore's Bugle Field! It is great for us when we discover actual artifacts like this Arrow Beer Bottle to give us such solid color references to apply in our image. (thx Etsy!)

“No one encouraged me. I thought this thing alone. I’ve seen Satchel Paige. I’ve seen Josh Gibson. I heard about Buck Leonard. I heard about some of the other great black athletes. It just came out at that Hall of Fame day and I thought about the great players of the past. Only
