An overwhelming 85% percent of New Yorkers say the cost of food is rising faster than their income - making it harder for families to put healthy food on their tables and afford other necessities, like rent and utilities.

Just under half of respondents reported having faced food insecurity in the past year. Unfortunately, these numbers are even higher among parents of school-age children and New Yorkers living in rural communities.

Many families are purchasing less healthy food options in an attempt to stretch their grocery budgets. As one Upstate mom told us, “I know several families that have to cut corners and not give their children protein and fresh produce with every meal. They are hurting.”
