On this date in Weather History: The remnants of Hurricane Ike produced strong winds back on Sep 14, 2008. (weather.gov/pah/IkeRemnant…) Also, back in 1930 F2 tornadoes hit Mount Vernon and Dahlgren, IL Finally, way back in 1902 Carbondale, IL observed their earliest fall freeze.

Most of the region will be dry starting on Sunday and continuing through the entire wk ahead. Portions of southeast MO may still have some lingering showers on Sunday though. Otherwise, sunshine will return in full force by Tues along with above normal temps in the mid-upper 80s.

Chances of showers/storms today mainly SEMO, and portions of SIL/west KY along and west of I-57 and I-24. On Sunday, a few showers/storms in the Ozark Foothills of southeast Missouri, otherwise dry and mostly sunny. Dry, warm and lots of sunshine the rest of the week.

A few showers will linger over southern and western portions of the area tonight and Monday from the remnants of Francine. Otherwise, a return to dry conditions and above normal temperatures is anticipated this week as temperatures reach well into the 80s each day.

High pressure will give our region dry conditions and lots of sunshine the rest of the week into the first half of next weekend. Temperatures will be above normal, with the warmest readings on Friday and Saturday.
