It's that time of year where I study the Polar Vortex among other features, constantly. It is interesting to see the PV strengthen but still being displaced and stretched towards North America. Interesting times ahead!

Our complex 00 UTC (8 PM EDT) surface analysis of Sandy 10 years ago tonight as it reached the New Jersey coastline. The forming fronts around the low pressure center indicate how the storm had transitioned into an extratropical cyclone from a Hurricane during this timeframe.

So, around this time ten years ago, with #Sandy landfall
about 30 hours away, another briefing package was being prepared at NWS Mt. Holly. The staff reviews the draft package, but they didn't see this slide, which I pasted in right before hitting 'send.'
