At the same time (literally), one of my PhD students (Amadeo Castro-González) gives a talk at an international conference (#TOE3_Porto2023), and my other PhD student (Olga Balsalobre) leads an ESO press release on a great discovery. All in just 30 min... stay tuned! #ProudSupervisor

🦄 Did we find one of the unicorns of astronomy? 🤔 Theory says two planets could share the same orbit but evidence is scant. 📡 Using ALMA Observatory📡, in which ESO is a partner, astronomers have now found one possible such sibling of an exoplanet ➡️ eso.org/public/news/es… 1/

Today is a great day. We are very happy to share with you a paper lead by Olga Balsalobre-Ruza, a PhD student at Centro Astrobiología, where we are presenting in an ESO PR the first evidence for **co-orbital** planet formation in an extrasolar system, the iconic PDS 70. 🧵

These results have been presented in a A&A journal paper involving planet formation and ALMA experts (Itziar de Gregorio-Monsalvo, Álvaro Ribas Gómez, M. Benisty and N. Huélamo) and co-orbital exoplanet detection (myself Jorge Lillo-Box and Olga Balsalobre, leading the paper). aanda.org/articles/aa/fu…

Finally, in this video of our Remote Worlds Lab team we explain the results for the general public. We also thank ESO for the press release and the awesome resources created by their media dept. lead by Juan Carlos Munoz youtu.be/JBInDm_6HcM

#BreakingNews 📡 Trojan planets could exist! In the PDS 70 system, a young star that hosts 2 giant Jupiter-like planets: a cloud of debris with a mass 2 times greater than our Moon was detected in PDS 70b almaobservatory.org/en/press-relea…

You’ve likely heard of the Trojan asteroids. But what about a Trojan planet? These astronomers think they’ve found the first. mashable.com/article/exopla…

¡Abrimos hilo! 🧵

Excellent week of #exoplanet science at Porto. A very productive week for our Remote Worlds Lab, with two talks by my PhD students Olga Balsalobre and Amadeo Castro-González and the awesome #PDS70 trojan press release.

New paper day! It's been 6 years since TROY-project took off searching for #trojans to Hot-Jupiters. Now, we have extended the search to all low-mass stars hosting confirmed planets and… we found (three!) co-orbital candidates! How? Read this thread by 1st author Olga Balsalobre👇
