18 June 1798, Lady Louisa Conolly describes the 1798 Rebellion Castletown House had transformed into a garrison '18 soldiers sleeping in our drawing room’, and ‘there are 80 men at Celbridge + 300 at Leixlip the conjunction of which I hope will make a stand sufficient against them’
