The Security Council just approved a long-awaited resolution on Gaza, demanding an immediate ceasefire, and the immediate and unconditional release of all hostages. This resolution must be implemented. Failure would be unforgivable.

I had the pleasure to participate today at the inauguration of “The Arab Forum to Curb Migrant Smuggling and to Promote Safe and Regular Migration Pathways” in Tunisia. This is a unique opportunity for the countries of the region to exchange knowledge on this important topic.

Today, I participated in the launch of the Africa-GCC, Jordan & Lebanon Dialogue on Labour Mobility . It's a unique platform to address the challenges & opportunities of labor migration, enhance existing regular pathways and create new ones for skills-based labor mobility.

Increased conflict is placing extra stress on our fragile environment. There are fewer safe places: water and food are harder to find. Higher temperatures, longer dry seasons, and harsher storms are worsening the lives of those displaced by conflict. #WorldEnvironmentDay

We were happy to host at our regional office the signing of a partnership agreement between IOM and UN Office on Drugs & Crime. We have a longstanding commitment to combating migration-related transnational organized crime and we look forward to boosting this cooperation in the future.

Today, at the 2nd regional review of the Global Compact for Migration, we assess our progress and discuss ways to make migration work for all. We highly value our partnership with the League and we look forward to strengthening it further in the future.

Children should embrace the joys of childhood. Their innocence should never be exploited. On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, We reaffirm our duty to protect, educate, advocate, and act. #EndHumanTrafficking must remain an international priority.

IOM is saddened by reports that 17 people have drowned off the N Africa coast on the West Africa Atlantic Route. The port of embarkment is unknown. IOM calls for migration to be made safe, regular, and voluntary. We decry the criminal smugglers who knowingly place lives at risk.

It is alarming to see the latest calamities being caused by extreme weather and conflict in Sudan and Yemen. Fighting must end and humanitarian access, coupled with durable solutions, must be prioritized. IOM is present and will continue to push for more aid for millions in need.
