📣This municipal election, we have the chance to elect progressive candidates that will champion bold, ambitious climate solutions. Climate Justice Ottawa put together a platform to demonstrate what municipal policies that advance climate justice could look like. #OttVote 🧵

Have you engaged your candidates on police budgets? 1/10th of Ottawa's municipal budget (~$350M) is spent on policing, which is almost 18% of taxpayer $$ and comparable to the tax dollars spent on public health, paramedics, libraries, social housing & parks & recreation combined

I don't doubt some candidates have faced some personal attacks and that's never okay but attempts to equate that to things like legitimate policy grievances, calling out corporate and developer influence and people trying to hold politicians accountable is extremely disengnious.

Good thread on what massive cuts to the OC Transpo capital budget means for transit riders in #Ottawa. For example it could lead to less or no R1 bus service the next time the #OttawaLRT goes down - is this how Mark Sutcliffe is bringing confidence back to our transit system?

If the mayor is so concerned about "empty buses" he could actually do something to attract riders, instead of more cuts. We've been banging this drum for awhile: frequency, bus lanes, fare relief. If you can grab a bus every 5-10 mins without delays, transit becomes worth using.

It was a great session tonight on the #ottcity budget hosted by Vivic Research, Ottawa Coalition for a People’s Budget and with help from Coalition Against More Surveillance with close to 100 people in attendance throughout! I think #Ottawa residents are ready to fight for a budget for everyone!

We have been hearing that members of the Ottawa Police Services Board have been replying to residents via email saying that the Police budget is DECREASING despite them clearly getting an increase year after year. Let's look at the facts:

Cathy Curry is trying to use the growing population as a reason to increase the police force's budget and presence in communities while lumping together the gaps in resources for fire & paramedics. The police budget does not fund paramedics or fire, it funds militarized police.
