Late 9th century wall painting fragment of an angel. It was excavated at New Minster in Winchester, and possibly came from one of the monastic buildings founded by King Alfred. Now on display Winchester Cathedral 📸 My own.

Characterful heads at the base of the pulpit carved by the sisters for their father's church in 1889 are said to represent the sisters themselves. If so, these two are Violet and Mary, I reckon. 📸: my own

Yelverton
Choir stall poppy head featuring a 'creature' and carved in the workshop. If this were medieval, one might think it's a caterpillar carved by someone who's never seen a caterpillar but surely not in 1915? 📸: my own

Two images of female saints, both depicted pierced by swords. Church labels say it is St Lucy or St Agnes on the left with sword through throat and St Justina or St Agatha on the right with sword through breasts. Any clarification welcome. 📸: my own

Out church crawling at last!
Found another New Red Sandstone Norman font, but badly treated. Only one full and two partial palmettes remaining with chevrons below; rest chiselled out. Adding insult to injury was a hideous font cover, duly removed.
