Happy #FossilFriday! Our new exhibit at the University of Alberta paleontology museum features a baby Chasmosaurus and Saurornitholestes. Thank you to all the staff and graduate students who helped to create this display!

Happy #FossilFriday! I am currently in Paris and just visited the French National Museum of Natural History (MNHN). Here I am next to the holotype of Mosasaurus hoffmanni. I can’t believe I got to stand next to Cuvier’s “le Grand Animal de Maastricht”!

Since it is #NationalDinosaurDay, I figure there is no better dinosaur to feature other than the Megalosaurus holotype jaw. This was the first dinosaur to be validly named and described and has undergone significant changes in how it was reconstructed since its discovery!

I can’t believe we were featured for an episode for the new Walking With Dinosaurs series! I cannot wait to watch it! 🥳

It turns out...Komodo dragons have iron-coated teeth! nature.com/articles/s4155… Their serrations and tips pop into the mouth with an orange hue. Using different techniques, we show that these iconic lizards have special iron-rich coatings on each tooth, keeping them razor sharp!

How big could T. rex get? How does bias in the fossil record affect our ability to sample the largest body sizes? I try to answer these questions with Dr Dave Hone here: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.10… With fantastic supporting artwork by Mark Witton. #CMNPalaeo

Science is supposed to be self-correcting, so here is my attempt at self-correction. Yeah, it turns out that Luchibang, the pterosaur I worked on a few years ago is indeed a chimera. I was fooled by (a superlative) bit of forgery: archosaurmusings.wordpress.com/2024/08/17/mea…

Splendid day in Bristol, celebrating the career of our pal and mentor Mike Benton UoB Palaeobiology. Mike is ‘retiring,’ which really just means he’ll have more time to write, and add to his tally of 85 paleontology books!
