I love journalism. But every time I watch the #georgemichael documentary #outed I feel a deep sense of shame. The dinosaurs attempting to justify the language used over his “outing” is shameful. The relentless coverage continued after his death - see thread below on the 999 leak

The Metropolitan Police Service (MPS) conceded this should not have happened and that the police and media guidelines agreed with the NUJ, British Press Photographers and Chartered Institute of Journalists had not been properly followed.

Exciting news! We're currently planning the 2024 Freelance Journalism Awards. But we need your help. We're looking for sponsors to support each award category. We have some fab sponsors lined up but need a few more to get the awards off the ground. DM us if you can help🙏

The law is making an ass of itself in prosecuting a 69 year old climate change protestor for holding a placard telling juries what their rights are. My column  prospectmagazine.co.uk/ideas/law/6570…

Alan is spot on. It’s absurd to be thinking of prosecuting a 69-year-old for contempt for holding a banner outside a court. This wasn’t jury intimidation

During this election, GB News, the Telegraph, Jewish Chronicle & other news outlets have framed Muslims voting in the #GeneralElection2024 as “sectarian”, “extremists”, antisemites and constantly questioned their loyalty to Britain. Evidence laid out in the thread below 🧵1/25

Good defamation example here for media law students. It includes the fun case study of Harold and Madge Bishop and the superimposed pornography pics which I use in my teaching

This is sad news. I played him once when I was about 12. He smashed the pack open, I made 6 points, missed, and he cleared up with 117. Total legend bbc.co.uk/sport/snooker/…

Good decision by the judge not to impose a sec 45 anonymity order. It’s clearly in the public interest considering the amount of misinformation swirling around. The decision was probably made easier given that he turns 18 in a matter of days anyway amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/articl…

Interesting piece, but another fundamental protection of #openjustice (technically possible now, HM Courts and Tribunals Service ??), would be to allow journalists to access basic info about Eng/Wales pending and ongoing criminal cases held on the Common Platform 1/2 holdthefrontpage.co.uk/2024/news/coul…

Sad news that Highbury journalism course is being axed. I spent three highly enjoyable years there training scores of journalism students & apprentices. It always felt like an extremely privileged post, given its long history. Feels like an end of an era holdthefrontpage.co.uk/2024/news/coll…

Interesting discussion here from David Davis - I like the idea of a Hansard for court trials. This would definitely aid open justice and make our courts more transparent. I like the fact it’s being debated but whether we see it happen is another thing.
