Yesterdays trip down to Fenny Compton to meet survivors and family members of loved ones killed by domestic violence. A link in all of the stories was serious police failings. The officers involved still work in UK police forces, some have actually since been promoted.

Hillsborough. Stephen Lawrence. Windrush. The Post Office. And now Grenfell. The systematic programme of institutional injustice, dishonesty and incompetence meted out to a specific section of society continues.

The treatment of the victims of #Grenfell, their families, and the wider impacted community has been shameful. The report confirms what we already know—that we live in a society where a hierarchy of human worth is constructed around race and class.

"The inquiry report reveals that whenever there's a clash between corporate interest and public safety, governments have done everything they can to avoid their responsibilities to keep people safe. The system isn't broken, it was built this way."

The victims of Grenfell were of mostly minority, migrant backgrounds, maybe asylum seekers. The report states they’ve been ignored by govt and the panel describes how residents were not treated as people. Britain should hang its head in shame for treating fellow humans like this.

It comes as no surprise that the House emptied just hours after the judge announced the publication of the phase 2 report. It shows how many of those within the political elite are a part of the disregard, indifference and incompetence that contributed to the deaths of our 72.

Rotten culture, contempt towards social housing tenants and a lack of empathy has been the cultural norm for many years. Treating tenants as ‘less than’ and expecting them to ‘put up and shut’ whilst also subjecting residents to treatment and conditions no one should have to put

2 years ago, Chris Kaba was killed by officer Martyn Blake in Streatham. Blake, now charged with murder, goes on trial Oct 2. We stand with Chris's family as they fight for accountability. The impunity that allows Black lives to be taken without consequence must end.

I don't have enough words to express my deep sadness at this brutal femicide and to articulate how wrongly this is phrased. "Fell victim to domestic violence " is so abstract, yet there is a person, a society, a world that we can point to.
