If #Peterborough Council had honoured its decision to sell St George's to Ranjith Mahamani to allow continued community use, instead of needlessly demolishing it, the warm #hydrotherapy pool would doubtlessly be even busier than ever. And residents would be healthier!

A powerful heartfelt opinion piece from Louise, a carer, on behalf of those affected by the sale of city's #Dementia Centre. Her calls will resonate with many of St George's #disabled service users who have been left with no facility and service at all.

Disabled people are at the bottom of the pile for support in Peterborough. As those who made these decisions age, the penny will drop and by then it will be too late for so many whose conditions and quality of life have deteriorated.

#Peterborough City Council's Cabinet Member for Adults & Health, Dr Shabina Qayyum, has reassured users of the current #Dementia Resource Centre that the relocation of the centre will have 'as minimal impact a possible' on people with dementia and their carers. peterboroughtoday.co.uk/health/relocat…

#Peterborough #Disability This resonates with #StGeorgesClosureDebacle "Being active in a way that suits us and is fun is not a luxury; it should be a core part of our lives regardless of background. Our inactivity speaks to our wider exclusion from society."

An accessible heated swimming pool can be one of the safest ways for people with a mobility issue to exercise. We don't have as many options as others.

A #disabled personal trainer who is 'transforming' changing clients' lives 'has long called for gyms to be more accessible and inclusive, but warned they still have a way to go.' bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… #Peterborough: we have an opportunity to build better!

Attended #PeterboroughStationQuarter #accessibility workshop today. There were lots of probing questions and pertinent accessibility points posed. Outcome: we remain concerned and think there is a good deal more work to do - but thank you. (Sorry for lack of a photo!)

This is incredibly good news. Thank you to the council and Peterborough's MP for listening to people with dementia and their families and for continuing to listen so the new centre can be the best it can possibly be. This news is HUGE.❤️❤️❤️

This is such heartening news. In contrast, what a terrible loss a previous PCC administration did not listen and save St George's. This has cost service users' their health and wellbeing and circa £9 million economic and social value (#SROI) to the council and the city.

Dr Shabina Qayyum Peterborough City Council Superb, Shabina. I’m very glad you’re in this role and demonstrably listening. And thanks to the team who have worked with you to turn this around. Do you think you can bring the hydrotherapy pool back now, please? 🙏❤️ #Goals

We applaud Peterborough Council listening and working with service users. It will help ensure the service provided genuinely and effectively meets their needs. #DementiaMatters

Peterborough: the commission recommends that local governments restore 'health-vital infrastructures.' Vital facilities that like the indoor #swimming and #hydrotherapy pool that we have recently lost.

We have experienced this and know how extraordinarily powerful and truly wonderful this is. We need the opportunity to experience this restored to all who could benefit in #Peterborough. #SEND #PMLD #Health #Wellbeing.
