Our program starts with the fantastic keynote from Magdalena Wojcieszak , who argues that one overlooked problem is the low levels of quality news consumption among citizens, partially due to interest bias in #algorithm. We need to think about how to get ppl to consume more quality news!
Our #ica24 pre conference “the future of computational message science” is starting today! First, our keynote from jeff hancock talks about how AI can communicate “more human than human” and how we can design responsible #AI for communication science.
Our next panel “digital interventions” features thought-provoking research from Talia Stroud covering the role of Facebook and Instagram in US election and Jingwen Zhang talking about using AI for persuasion in health contexts.
Do we want #AI in our life? Our next panel “AI and communication” talks about the promises, perils, hopes, and concerns surrounding AI applications. Dr. Norah Dunbar covers deception detection and AI for security and Rachel Kornfield looks at AI for improving mental health. #ica24
Method alert! The last panel in our #ica24 pre conference “the future of computational message science” covers computational text analysis. Speakers Hans Hanley Fabienne Lind Christian Baden talk about computational ways to measure narrative flows and do multilingual analysis.
Great way to end our pre conference with an incredible and inspiring keynote from Dr. Cuihua (Cindy) Shen , who argues that we need to understand visual misinformation more, what makes visuals more credible, and the way to address misinformation should not only rely on users! #ica24
🚀We (Yingdan_Lu) had such an amazing panel today on "Image as Data in the Generative AI age" ICA Comp Methods. Our speakers showed representational biases, features and perceptions of AI-generated images across countries, and theorized what biases mean in vision language models. #ica24
