Random Goalkeeper Fact of the Day (191): Nick Culkin's debut - and only appearance - for Man Utd was one of the shortest ever. An injury-time sub for Raimond Van Der Gouw in a game vs Arsenal, the ref blew for full time after he took a goalkick. It lasted six seconds.

Rocky Flintoff will make his first class debut today at the oval. Bairstow is playing for Yorkshire. Olly Stone is at Durham. The championship is back. Thank god. Feels like it’s been away for too long.

My suggestion for a new ⁦Northamptonshire Steelbacks⁩ team song - to the tune of Tony Newley’s “What Would I Be..” - altogether now, “Where Would We Be Without You, Sando?” Today saw ⁦Ben Sanderson⁩’s 20th five-wicket haul for the County, level with Sir Curtly. Quality times two.

Another magical day out on the County Cricket Roadshow watching Middlesex Cricket take on Northamptonshire Steelbacks at Merchant Taylors' in Moor Park. A really good competitive day’s play in terrific company. What more do you need?

A fantastic 2 days Surrey Cricket v. Lancashire Cricket, topped by a smart, well-placed 227 from #RoryBurns. Today's🌧️a good chance to catch up on #ENGvSL: Smith ton; de Silva resistance; Jayasuriya spin. Bliss. #TestCricket #bbccricket Peter Hardy #CricketTwitter Nicholas Brookes

Kamindu Mendis looks an absolute star batter. Makes me wonder why no county has signed him up for the County Championship. His live Test average (small sample size) is 106.00, and after 46 fc matches, he averages 61.24 with 15 x 100s and 21 x 50s.

We're back after a brief Summer break and to celebrate, here's a pic of a young Pat Jennings making a save for the cameras at Spurs' training ground.

The past week of red-ball #cricket was fresh air: the return of #countychamp & absorbing #TestCricket. SL's surprising grit was heartening - both for my SL heritage & the overall health of the game. Must get a ticket for #EngvSL🤔 County Cricket Matters Peter Hardy Nicholas Brookes

A fabulous evening with the writers of Richie Benaud’s Blue Suede Shoes - Harry Ricketts & David Kynaston along with Vic Marks & Mike Brearley. Thank you to the excellent The Cricket Society for organising yet another great event 👏👏

Sometimes there's more to a photo than meets the eye - Gordon Banks in his penultimate international at Ninian Park, wearing an Umbro shirt with the diamond emblem on it, shinpads and what looks like a pair of gardening gloves. A week later he would play his final England match.

Very good to see county cricket & the Vitality Blast thriving. Full house at Hove. A thumping win for Sussex Cricket. Please don’t forget about them in the unseemly rush for franchise cash #GOSBTS

A lovely day at Byfleet Cricket Club on 1st September but Cricket Society XI was well beaten by 53 runs. Thank you though to everyone at Byfleet Cricket Club who provided a sumptuous tea and a warm reception. We hope that you will have us back next year.

On This Day in 1981 Derbyshire CCC won the NatWest Trophy at Lord’s by defeating Northants, the county's first trophy for 45 years. A little-known statistic from this game...this side never played together again, even though Derbyshire played a JPL match the following day...

Always good to be in situ at Surrey Cricket for a Test match. Even better when a local boy scores a ton. Well done #ollliepope although he was helped by some pretty ordinary Srilankacricket bowling as well as some desultory fielding.
