📢A new record 94.3% of all new passenger cars registered in 🇳🇴Norway in August were battery-electric. A few months of higher share of purchases by businesses had pulled the BEV rate down, and July is always a quiet month, but August pulls clear of these short-term effects. 1/2

A method review of 561 #degrowth studies finds major flaws. No good basis to draw conclusions about effectiveness & feasibility of degrowth as a strategy to tackle environmental/social problems. Suggests need for modesty about degrowth plans. Ivan Savin doi.org/10.1016/j.ecol…

🇸🇪Sweden removed it's "Climate bonus" scheme for EVs in early 2023 on the grounds that total cost of ownership is now similar to ICEs. The effect of this policy change is clear. Acceleration of EV sales has stopped, and sales have decline in 2024. 1/2

This is a nice figure showing how reserves &resources can be extended via technology & exploration. For climate, a key question (for me) is the share of investment that goes into extending reserves (technology) or extending resources (exploration). sodir.no/en/whats-new/p…

Will Chinese fossil CO2 emissions peak this year? Maybe, but I would not get too excited until emissions decline for a few years. Nevertheless, the elements are in place to peak by 2030. forskning.no/kina-klima/har…

Denmark has a rapid increase in the use of bioenergy. Is this a problem? Most of the growth is from wood pellets and wood chips, the vast majority of which is imported. It is very hard to assess carbon neutrality of imported products under our current accounting systems.
