I love how the male Osmia bicornis (Red Mason Bee) sleep on their back in this knot hole on the outside of the house. Some days, there are two or three crammed in here

Really didn't expect this female Osmia caerulescens (Blue Mason Bee) in the garden today. Males usually emerge late April & females after that. Not that common in the garden, & I don't usually see them here until June. Red Mason bee females have scarcely started to emerge yet!

Very excited about our new paper! Lisbeth Hordley & I show that if you have long grass in your garden you’ll see more butterflies, that more long grass is better & that the effects are greater for gardens in more urban & arable landscapes. sciencedirect.com/science/articl… 🧵

The male Sparrowhawk is still building but ignoring the ivy stems we left for him. Look at the size of the stick he flies off with!

The Osmia bicornis (Red Mason bee) males have started hatching but it looks like they wish they hadn't bothered! Every hole on the tree has an occupant

I found this very helpful after Douglas died and have thought about it a lot. Have just re-read and it still resonates. Thank you Rachel

I found it so moving talking to Michael Palin about how he is rebuilding his life after the death of his wife Helen

Oh! I know what you are doing! This will be the 6th consecutive year of Sparrowhawks nesting in the same area of the garden

Loss isn't a single timeline event, it has ripples. Your person is missing at every point in the future. This is something many people outside your grief can't understand: you haven't simply lost one person, at one point in time. Your future has changed as well as your “now.”⁣⁣

I think this is Cauliflower Slime Mould (Enteridium lycoperdon) which has appeared on a dead alder in the garden.
