Check out 'Rugby on Trial' tonight, investigating whether enough has been done to protect players from the devastating impacts of concussions and repeated knocks to the head. It's on BBC One at 8.30pm in the West and South West regions, as well as the BBC iPlayer.

If player welfare had ever been rugby authorities 'No1 priority' they would have reduced volume of matches and contact training (where injuries/concussions still rife) and not allowed concussed players back on the field. Six day RTP and championing collisions also indefensible.

The line between raising concussion awareness and scaring people off from playing rugby is a fine one to tread, but tread it we must. The cost of ignoring it is simply too great. Adapting the game in response to increased risk (caused by professionalism) is key.

In light of last night's Rugby on Trial doc, posing tough questions about the historic mismanagement of concussion, now would be a - insert word - time to release RFU/Prem Rugby funded research finding next to no long-term problems associated with repeatedly bashing your head.

Tackling is responsible for more than 60% of concussions in high school football. Limiting contact during practice can reduce the risk for concussions and minimize the number of head impacts. Visit CDC Injury Center website for more info on #concussion safety. cdc.gov/heads-up/

Dear Twitter. I'm looking to stage a London event next Jan/Feb with a broad range of stakeholders discussing the extent of sport's concussion problem and the solutions available. Could you provide venue for 150+ people to support this? Please email [email protected] if so🙏

Lots of parents in touch asking if they should buy headgear for their kids to protect them from concussion at start of rugby season. One particular company who i’ve clashed with in past charging £129 for their “product”. Do not buy these. They do not protect against concussion.
