All 9 Leicester's adventure playgrounds are having their funding cut. 14 years of central govt cuts to LA funding mean that LAs can now only focus on their statutory duties and sadly, opportunities to play is not a statutory duty. Thanks Harriet Grant for your persistent coverage

It’s #PlayDay2024 and the theme this year is “play - the culture of childhood”. Play is how children & young people create and engage with cultural worlds, shaping space, making meaning and having fun. We should celebrate - and advocate for - play every day. Happy Playday!

It's not just about austerity and 'cuts' when we lose children's play spaces - we have to get a deeper understanding of the importance of play back into the heart of local / central government. Play England are calling for legislation that would protect children's play spaces.

The young of our species need and want to play. This was true back in the 1980s when Playday was launched by a handful of dedicated London playworkers. It is still true today. Happy #playday2024 everyone!
