On top of laying off employees, nearly 7 in 10 business owners said they reduced the quality of food in their homes. 6 in 10 said they couldn’t afford the food they afforded pre-COVID19

These are vital conversations that I hope our political elite pick an equal interest in

In a survey with IGC, 81% of small business owners said they’d spent all their savings to cope with the tough times, 32% said they borrowed from family and friends, 25% said they went to banks and saccos. We talk about recovery but less about what that actually looks like

Part of the empathy we should have with owners & employees of SMEs is discussing frankly the business environment and asking policy makers, industry players to think differently of the problem. Glad bankers jumped onto these spaces with an open mind

In the last 3 years, profits for SMEs in Uganda have fallen by 51.92%, revenues fell by 45.9%.

These are mostly underreported numbers that speak to heart of doing small business in Kampala. In this space, I spoke about that with some experts. Please listen if you get a minute

Charles Onyango-Obbo Mujuni Raymond African Union Robert Kabushenga I have flown to Abuja via Europe numerous times before (London, Frankfurt) & Abidjan via Paris. Thankfully, connections via Addis and Cairo are much better these days. It's good to see that ET is taking on the pan African role that eluded SAA. Continental regulations don't exist.

Mujuni Raymond African Union Not too long ago, we were in Tunis with .Robert Kabushenga. One of my comrades from Mozambique could only make it there by flying to Lisbon, then Paris, and on to Tunis.

Charles Onyango-Obbo Mujuni Raymond African Union Sometime back the only way I could get to Dakar, Senegal was via Johannesburg from Entebbe. The other option was a maddening 7 country stop via Addis. I aborted the trip. I have never understood why the so called Pan African champions cannot just declare open skies!!!

To fly from Entebbe in Uganda to Tripoli in Libya [Both on the continent], you have to first go to Istanbul, Turkey in Europe/West Asia

How does this make sense to our 54 leaders who meet atleast once every year African Union

I appeal to fellow public leaders, officials, civil servants & technocrats of all categories,to adopt a private sector friendly outlook.Have the urgency to help/ serve private sector pple ( our clients). Don't be indecisive or insensitive about their feedback.

This bothers me!

The question to always ask is; how come Uganda, which produces way more milk than it can consume, allows in Brookside milk to compete with Jesa which is one of our oldest enterprises?

Regional markets should lead with competition over protectionism.
