We'll probably never get a full and open answer, but I'd love to know what changes have been to the algorithm since Elon Musk took over. Today's X feels pretty different, and I suspect quite a few changes have been made to what content the algorithm is promoting.

The carbon cycle has been close to equilibrium through the Holocene; we know this because we measure atmospheric CO2 concentrations in ice cores. But in the past few centuries CO2 has increased by 50%, and is now at the highest level in millions of years due to human emissions.

OpenAI: We're going to copy all your IP, but don't worry, we're good guys, we'll make it hard* for people to infringe your copyrights. *(not actually hard) Grok: We'll copy your shit, make it easy to infringe, and laugh as it's used to ruin everyone's childhood.

With seven months completed, the Earth is very likely (96% chance) to set a new annual average temperature record in 2024. This would make 2024 the warmest year since instrumental measurements began in 1850, beating the record just set in 2023. berkeleyearth.org/july-2024-temp…

Sigh. If you care about older family members, consider talking to them about how to avoid scams before they make expensive mistakes. For example, that Facebook profile with your relative's name and photo that is suddenly asking for favors? Maybe double check that offline.

End of era. I will fondly remember geeking out on AnandTech's technical articles, and am sad to see it go, another victim of the shrinking journalism market.

Can anyone think of examples of companies that defied a country's local court orders and, through public pressure, actually got the country to back down? Winning a legal appeal would be one thing, but Musk's strategy seems to be something else entirely.

Did I miss the memo? When did the platform that taught the world the value of a pithy tweet decide they were going to become a "video-first platform"? What is this site even trying to be?
