Have you ever seen a Chuckwalla? How about FOUR of them hibernating together? Nick met a bunch of these harmless herbivorous squishies on a relocation call recently.

This Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was found on a back patio in north Phoenix. The day was on the warm side, and the artificial grass was way too hot to be around. Luckily, it found some time to cool off on, and Nick was able to relocate it to a more natural situation.

An Arizona Black Rattlesnake in an ambush near an isolated water hole. These are ideal hunting situations, as small mammals frequent the area to get a drink of water. This animal is at this one every year, and I've been visiting it there each year for more than a decade now.

This little Western Diamondback Rattlesnake was cruising around a backyard in Ahwatukee a few weeks ago, possibly unable to have found a suitable winter den. Marissa helped it get to the perfect place (not in the yard!)

This pretty Southwestern Speckled Rattlesnake was spotted by the driveway in south Phoenix. Bryce was called out to help get this snake to a better spot. These are highly specialized rattlesnakes, requiring a great deal of precision in selecting a release site.

The Western Groundsnake is highly variable – sometimes banded, solid colored, bright red or orange, and many more. This orange-striped version is common in Arizona. This is not a baby, but a large adult!

It's not all diamondbacks! Well ... here's one, but with a few friends who also show up at homes from time to time and got a ride back to the desert. Can you name them?

A Coachwhip (Red Racer) considers the mammal looking at it and decides to pause its daily emergence until it is gone. These fast, intelligent snakes are common throughout much of Arizona, typically encountered as a blur of color and movement heading into bushes.

This Tiger Rattlesnake was using this patio in the same way it would a similar functional structure in nature. Rock in partial sun, largely shaded and offering thermoregulatory opportunities.

A Speckled Rattlesnake is released into perfect habitat. Each release is different, and many things are considered when picking a spot that will be best for both the animal and the people in the area alike.

Even Marissa missed this one, walking past it a few times before spotting the snake on a recent property inspection in Casa Grande. Captured and relocated safely.

A Western Diamondback found a nice spot near an in-ground fountain on a property tucked against the Deems Hills preserve. In addition to the fountain, there was supplemental water and feeders for birds – rattlesnakes will continue to visit and take advantage of the free lunch.

A call came into Amy with our Prescott hotline to report a rattlesnake, which they identified correctly as a Blacktailed Rattlesnake. This species often climbs trees and bushes – maybe this wicker chair seemed like a place it might get a bird :)

An easter-egg hunt found something else instead. This Sonoran Gophersnake was also looking for eggs (real ones) but ended up getting a free ride off-premises.
