It could be that the lazy contrarians & COVID ghouls are wrong (they often are, with their anemic and fake concern for children's welfare), and that COVID policies had far less to do with the spike in child homicides than did America's awful & cruel gun and economic policies.

US has built more houses in last 60 years than formed households. We subsidize housing where strong economies attract people. This stimulates the economy and attracts more people. Why not try vouchers for people who go (stay) where housing is cheaper? nyti.ms/3Tr8kbK

Bad metaphor. ACF captures relationships between values at all t's and t-n. Not between a specific t (e.g., you) and t-n (e.g., your ancestor n generations ago). The relationship would also have to appear for all your antecedents and theirs at t-n. allisonhorst.com/time-series-acf

I just learned of this awful loss. Harvey was right enough to stay relevant and wrong enough to stay controversial. He was also wise enough to work for its own sake and not for approbation. Rest in peace my friend.

Problem: Fewer than half of human conceptions yield a live birth. So temporal variation in parental age at conception may not reflect changes in human preferences for reproduction. Do we attribute similar variation among other great apes to preferences? science.org/doi/epdf/10.11…

Hoping colleagues in epidemiology and process control engineering will give us feedback on how we might improve the approach described in this new paper. Particularly hoping for reactions from Germany. And thanks to my patient coauthors. bmcpublichealth.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.11…

More great stuff from Office for National Statistics (ONS) Coronavirus Infection Study-these lines show cumulative incidence *within* each variant period. Almost 1/2 of population infected in summer BA4/5 wave alone. Contrast that w/ death #s per wave & THANK GOD for the #vaccines. ons.gov.uk/peoplepopulati…

Working on a "dashboard" for US Pediatric Suicide in the years following the pandemic. We currently have reliable data to July 2022. This dashboard is pretty dense, so let's look at the individual components. The overall message clear: no major shifts in pediatric suicide /1

Madam Vice President, now that you've started this, let's do it right... Get a VP who'll motivate those we need most to win... Put Amy Klobuchar on the ticket.
