Hot take: Every new subdivision should be designed like a small town with minimal car use, have a central meeting house, tavern, coffee shop, grocery store, park, playground and postal kiosk.

Beautiful folded chestnut cladding in this 11-storey timber housing project in Paris, by Kengo Kuma. Built on a tiny 225m2 site too

We need to allow our communities to provide a wider variety of housing types that meet people at different phases of their lives & different price points. Cottage courts are just one way of fitting multiple, smaller homes on one typical suburban single family lot.

Paris definitely wasn’t always this way. This is very recent. It wasn’t magic. It just took leadership. Your city could choose leadership too. Great pic via JB Passieux

Crazy that office vacancy rates are so high yet new office designs keep emerging Is no one thinking of adaptive reuse of poor grade offices along with timber vertical extensions?
