When will Francine become a hurricane? NOAA reported at 4:00 AM that TS Francine has winds of 65 mph, that is just 9 mph less than a hurricane. Forecasters are predicting the status will change to hurricane in the next few hours.

EBR is under a Hurricane Warning, but what does that mean? A Hurricane Watch is issued when a tropical cyclone poses a possible threat within 48 hours. A Hurricane Warning is issued when sustained winds associated with a tropical cyclone are expected in 36 hours or less.

#Francine is now a category 1, moving to the northeast and slowly increasing in forward speed. Landfall is expected around late afternoon/early evening. NWS is forecasting the worst impacts for EBR will be later this evening into the overnight hours.

A little over 8,000 residents in EBR are without power as of 2:30 PM. If you are using a generator while awaiting restoration, please follow all manufacturer instructions and keep it at least 20’ away from any structures.
