Tonight we lit luminaries at the Colorado Freedom Memorial. One for each of the 6,218 Coloradans who gave the ultimate sacrifice.

I am saddened by the passing of President George H.W. Bush who always conducted himself with both honor and integrity. As a Persian Gulf War veteran, I will always remember him as a member of the Greatest Generation who skillfully led a multinational effort to liberate Kuwait.

I was proud to honor the Downtown Aurora Visual Arts (DAVA) today. Since 1993, DAVA has helped young people develop their creativity and character through artistic expression. Thank you to DAVA Executive Director Susan Jenson and staff for your many years of great work.

Today, we pause to remember and honor the American sailors who perished 77 years ago during the attack on #PearlHarbor77.

Mattis has been the adult in the room when it comes to national security policy and I find his impending departure alarming. For the last two years he has been a buffer between the chaos of the White House and our military.

I supported the House-passed $5.7 billion funding-level for border security as a starting point for negotiating with the Senate and the President. My hope is that a compromise will be reached that will avoid a shutdown.

Proud to have supported a major federal criminal justice reform by voting for the FIRST STEP Act, which lowers some of the federal mandatory minimum sentences and improves reentry services following incarceration.
