This "frugal CRISPR kit" costs about $2. It includes a cell-free extract (no living cells), plasmids encoding colorful proteins, and Cas9 + guide RNAs. Students express colorful proteins in the extract & then use CRISPR to cut the protein-coding genes, leading to loss of color.

Yippee 🎆. Got these auxotrophic Agrobacterium from Intact Genomics, Inc. #ECSU. Should allow minimal or no Agro overgrowth on our plant tissues (saving money/time 👍🏼👍🏼). Undergrad project to transform 🧬🧪🧫 using most used plasmids 🔴🔵🟣. #ECSUVikingsScience #hbcu

Rooting of the first 'Baby with the Red 🔴 Gene' from Alice #ECSU. Sebastian S. Cocioba🪄🌷. First noticeable plant with red leaves from petunia. Transformed from GV3101 +RUBYRED 🧬🧪🧫🌱. Meristemoids completely red are growing much slower. #ECSUVikingsScience #hbcu

Alice's 'Baby with the Red 🔴 Gene' has rooted #ECSU. @atinygreencell. Will place leaves 🍃 of this transgenic petunia plant back into PTC before acclimating. Still have several explants with red meristemoids, but no completely 🔴 shoots as yet. #ECSUVikingsScience #hbcu

Busy weeks for General Botany #ECSU. Wet lab 🧪⚗️ experiments have started. Colorful 🎨 macromolecule tests (+ water as a control; and an unknown soln). Also placed red onion 🌰 epidermal cells in glucose 🍬 or salt 🧂. Lab groups are gelling. #ECSUVikingsScience #hbcu
