The project was supported by the Wellington Chamber of Commerce under John Milford, who also supported its being subsidised by nearby businesses. [I always thought it was nuts. But council would be very correct in saying local business claimed to want the thing.]

By the end of today 44 of 46 councils will have retained/reaffirmed their Māori wards. A clear signal that local government values what Māori wards bring to decision making.

If govt goes through with forcing councils to have divisive referendums for no reason, it will total millions of ratepayer dollars at a time the Govt is telling councils to spend money only on roads and rubbish.

We’re greening Te Hā Noa! I was lucky to be there for the craning in of 11 of the 20 mature native trees, they’ll be surrounded by over 900 native plants, bringing urban ngahere and biodiversity back to mid-town in the city centre. Te Hā Noa will be a high quality public space, welcoming people who arrive into Victoria St from the two Te Waihorotiu Station entries. The name Te Hā Noa was gifted by mana whenua, conveying thoughts about the freedom to breathe & enjoy the environment around you.

The vision and work of many amazing people is taking shape, it’s great to see the care from the workers who are making it an awesome space that will serve Aucklanders & visitors for decades to come. Most of this project is funded directly by city centre residents & businesses

Hutt City Council just voted to reaffirm their decision to have Māori wards. Huge representation from Māori and support across the board from council - bar one abstention. All councillors spoke of the frustration of govt forcing them to do this & costing them more $$

That’s because the Kaipara Mayor is racist. On top of the dehumanising way he has treated Cr Paniora throughout her first term is disgusting. This grown man has constantly punched down on her & Māori in general. All the while, she’s held her head high. teaonews.co.nz/2024/09/06/kai…
