This is fantastic news. Interestingly almost 50% of patients came off the drug in 12 months but still saw a slowling of disease progression.

Breaking news on the Alzheimer’s disease treatment lecanemab! The MHRA have approved lecanemab for some people with early-stage Alzheimer’s disease. However NICE does not recommend use on the NHS for any patients.

We’ve been waiting decades for a treatment which can alter the course of this devastating condition. This is a monumental decision by MHRA for people living with dementia and must spur action on diagnosis – because right now the system isn’t ready for these drugs. 1/2.

It will be disheartening news that lecanemab will not be provided through the NHS but this is the beginning, not the end of treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. Research is hope and we know this is just the first step. 2/2.
