Check it out SABR Landmarks Committee!
Did some grave hunting today. Found the final resting spot of Chicago Black Sox ace pitcher, Eddie Cicotte. #BlackSox #EightMenOut RIP Baseball #BaseballGraves SABR Landmarks Committee
Paid my respects to HOF Detroit Tiger Harry Heilmann at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Southfield, MI. Lifetime .342 BA, .410 OBP, 4 batting titles, including hitting .403 in 1923. Career WAR of 72.2 #BaseballGraves RIP Baseball SABR Landmarks Committee
From Cicotte of the Black Sox to the Clean Sox. Nemo Leibold played outfield for the 1919 White Sox, batting .302 and an OBP of .404. He later played on Walter Johnson’s Senators who were 1924 WS champs and AL pennant winner in 1925 #BaseballGraves RIP Baseball SABR Landmarks Committee
Visited 19 year Detroit Tiger, HOFer Charlie Gehringer. In 1937 he batted .371 en route to the batting crown and MVP. He also led the Tigers to 3 AL Pennants, winning the WS in 1935. Lifetime .320 BA, .404 OBP, 84.7 WAR. 7x 200+ hits #BaseballGraves RIP Baseball SABR Landmarks Committee
After Eddie Cicotte’s grave, I found his great nephew, Al. Al played in the late 50s/early 60s. In 5 seasons, he pitched for the Yankees, Senators, Tigers, Indians, Cardinals and Astros. He’d be a great pick for Immaculate Grid #Baseballgraves RIP Baseball SABR Landmarks Committee
Last grave of the day…. Mr. Norman Stearnes….. aka Turkey!! Dude was a legit powerhouse in the negro leagues and, IMO, doesn’t get the attention he deserves. Career slashline 348/417/616 over 18 seasons. #BaseballGraves RIP Baseball SABR Landmarks Committee Bob Kendrick Negro Leagues Baseball Museum
When you go to a #whitesox game, you have to visit Nancy Faust. We love you, Nancy Faust!
I’ve always found Roberto Clemente intriguing, not just as a ballplayer, but more so as a person. I had the pleasure of visiting Pittsburgh in 2022 and learning more about him at the The Clemente Museum. I highly recommend it. #RobertoClementeDay
SABR Landmarks Committee May wish to consider adding Jim Thorpe, Pa., to the map and lists. The Thorpe memorial (he's buried there, a long, sad story) has a baseball engraving on one end. A baseball statue is coming soon, joining football and Olympic track statues already on the grounds.
2B, 3B and Home Plate (under a Mercedes-Benz) of old #ExhibitionStadium in #Toronto - where the Toronto Blue Jays used to play prior to the Rogers Centre. I couldn't find the 1B marker. The old infield was located in the parking lot of the current BMO Stadium in Toronto. SABR Landmarks Committee
During a recent trip to Kansas City, I visited the grave of the great Satchel Paige. SABR Landmarks Committee RIP Baseball #monarchs #SatchelPaige #baseball
Quick SABR Landmarks Committee detour on the way to my work event in Nashville. Note that Baseball Map location is a bit off. Wasn’t smart enough to figure out correct GPS but see Reply for exact location.
A landmark in #Toronto 🇨🇦 commemorating the former site of the old baseball minor league Maple Leaf 🍁 Stadium near the Billy Bishop Airport area. SABR Landmarks Committee
