The 15th IESHR Lecture, supported by Sage, was delivered by Prof Michael F. Laffan, Paula Chow Chair in International and Regional Studies at Princeton University on "Subjects of an Orientalist Despot:The Problem of the ‘Malaynesian’ People of the Nineteenth-Century Indian Ocean"

Mahesh Gavaskar, receiving the inaugural ‘Sunil Kumar Prize for the Best Research Paper’ 2023 for his article, ‘Phule’s Gulamgiri: Turning Puranic memory on its head’ in the Indian Economic and Social History Review, Vol. 60 (2), 2023.

The award was established to honor the memory of Prof. Sunil Kumar, a distinguished historian & former head of the department of Medieval Indian History at Delhi University, as well as a former joint managing editor of the IESHR Journal.

The event was presided by Sanjay Subrahmanyam, Distinguished Professor of History and Irving & Jean Stone Chair in Social Sciences at UCLA.
