Help! Someone will know; this is a Henry Moyes (of the Lunar Society), painted in 1792 by John Russell. What is he holding? Moyes was blind, so I'm guessing it is not optical, and I suspect it isn't a measuring cylinder. Genuinely would like to know. Thanks.
