If you knew the great tragedy of Stephen Colbert's life, you could also figure out why CBS' "The Late Show" put up 3 photos - with no explanation or ID - for 7 seconds at the end of its Sept. 11, 2024 episode. From our 9/11/74 series, for The Charlotte Observer: charlotteobserver.com/news/article29…

CBS telecast notes that some fans were "chanting Andy Dalton's name" as third quarter begins. Meanwhile, Panthers move into FG range under Young on what is easily their most successful drive of the day. A Pineiro FG cuts Chargers' lead to 20-3.

Yet to have a catch today for Panthers: Thielen, Legette, Mingo. So far the Panthers' entire WR corps has 2 catches for 8 yards: those belong to Diontae Johnson. Bryce is 9-for-12 for 34 yards and an INT. Clausen-esque numbers.

Bryce Young goes downfield to talk to Diontae Johnson after Panthers mess up another series. Hard to tell how that went. This was after a sack, and a Young misfire when Johnson was open 15 yards downfield on an off-platform play. Separately, Thielen looks frustrated, too.

Justin Herbert is walking off the field slowly, shaken up after a third-down play originally ruled as a fumble that Panthers recovered. Being reviewed. Herbert did walk off under his own power.

Canales first acts like he's going for a 4th-and-2 on his own 25, down 23-3 as 3rd quarter ends. After a Chargers timeout, he reconsiders, and will punt.

Bryce Young's career passing yardage lows in the NFL: 94 yards and 112 yards in the back-to-back shutout losses to close the 2023 season. He will begin the fourth quarter today with 41 passing yards. Young is 10-for-14, 41 yards, 1 INT. He's completed 2 pass to WRs for 8 yards.

Bryce Young will end this game with a career-low 84 passing yards, assuming Chargers just run the clock out at this point. Young's final pass of the day was batted down, bringing out the full-throated boos in the home stadium one more time.

Bryce Young was heavily booed throughout much of the Panthers' 26-3 loss to the Chargers Sunday. I also thought Young who threw for a career-low 84 yards, should have been benched for the 2nd half. Here's my reasoning, in my column for The Charlotte Observer: charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/car…

Check out the Dilworth Neighborhood Grille's new sign (photo credit Josh Bergeron). You may remember one of these signs once got owner David Tepper into the restaurant for a conversation. Well, DNG is still at it. (And Young, meanwhile, is getting benched).

The Panthers benched a healthy Bryce Young after only 2 games. That's startling. It's also the right thing to do. For The Charlotte Observer: charlotteobserver.com/sports/nfl/car…
