After gale force winds and NUMEROUS logistical setbacks, we have the first bit of data from our underwater timelapse cameras in the Salish Sea! These data will help set pre-restoration baselines of habitat use for our Dr. Julia K. Baum The Kelp Rescue Initiative bull kelp restoration!
Such a treat to present the results of our first national scale assessment of the #bluecarbon capacity of Canada’s kelp forests at #NACCB2024. Made possible by NSERC / CRSNG Fisheries and Oceans and a tremendous group of collaborators ! Dr. Julia K. Baum #BlueCarbonCanada

Ecosystem services are more vulnerable to climate driven extinctions than the food webs they arise from! onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11… Awesome new piece from Lexi Wilkes (my kickass student) from her time in Laura Dee's lab working w/ Aislyn A Keyes, PhD, dr. allison barner , & Dana Morton
Come listen to my talk next week in Seattle at Phyc. Soc. America ISOP ISEP on Thursday (Aug 1st) in the Applied Science session where I’ll talk about “GametoGlue”, an adhesive-based method I developed with The Kelp Rescue Initiative for directly seeding kelp for restoration!

I'm officially a PhD candidate! It's been a wild couple of years, and honestly, I couldn't have dreamed of more for this PhD. Huge thanks to Dr. Julia K. Baum for being so supportive, the whole Baum Lab for having my back, and especially my wife Sarah Timmer for sticking with me!
