Education and behavior expert Dr. Terry Scott discusses behavior strategies in the classroom with South Dakota educators at the MTSS conference in Chamberlain. The 2-day conference hosted 170 educators, and focused on adolescent literacy instruction and classroom management.

The South Dakota Road Trip is underway! Teachers on the eastern route stopped in Madison today to see the Prairie Village, where they explored the lifestyle and history of pioneers who settled South Dakota.

This summer, DOE is partnering with the Board of Regents to host career exploration camps at BHSU, DSU, NSU, SDSU, and USD. The camps host middle schoolers from South Dakota and help them to explore career options. Here, campers at NSU consider aviation and public safety careers.

Teachers on the eastern route of the SD Road Trip were able to see a Dakota man perform the Grass Dance at Sica Hollow. Warriors performed this dance to prepare an area for a ceremony, as it stomps down the grass and blesses the land.

Teachers on the western route of the South Dakota Road Trip visited the presidential statues in downtown Rapid City, while those on the eastern route walked the trails at Sica Hollow.

On a DOE-sponsored trip throughout South Dakota, teachers stop at the Old Courthouse Museum in Sioux Falls, and at the Sanford Underground Lab in Lead.

SD Attorney General Marty Jackley challenged a U.S. DOE law that would have required schools to allow men into women and girls' locker rooms. Thanks to an injunction from the 8th Circuit Court, that law will not take effect in South Dakota.
