I'd much rather Labour were focusing on why people are shoplifting. When people simply can't make ends meet they will take desperate measures. Criminalising them does not help. Improving their lives and prospects does. Let's look at that, eh? Let's offer a vision of hope.

I have been conducting research about the 1968 Columbia protests for such a long time, but I honestly do not know what to say right now. Except, perhaps, that student movements have been one of the most progressive, courageous political avantgardes of the past century

A recently restored book of remedies at the UL is revealing over 200 medieval medical recipes. The manuscript has been the subject of meticulous conservation work as part of the Curious Cures in Cambridge Libraries project. Read more here: specialcollections-blog.lib.cam.ac.uk/?p=27848.

Cumbria, 1391. The last wolf in England felt desperately alone. He lived in the thorn woods at Humphrey Head & his one friend was a kind girl who gave him bacon & buttery scones. When he was killed & his soul flew over the sea, he howled her name to the dying sun, to the waves.

Something very sinister about banning peaceful student protesters and punishing them, and perhaps particularly so at a woman's college, when women are historically peacemakers. If a woman's college not value non-violence and peace, what does it value?

Yesterday, I went to Yinka Shonibare‘s Suspended States, Serpentine. It’s full of visually arresting and thought-provoking creations, like his jaw-dropping War Library and his striking colonial figures. Definitely a must-see, and for the film of his work.
