Everyone thinks they 'mean well', given their world view, cognitive biases, personality traits, life circumstances, and ethos.

So, calling an action 'well-meaning' gives exactly zero information about whether the action was, in fact, good.

9. Younger, more left-leaning, and female professors were generally more opposed to controversial scholarship and more supportive of punishing peers who report controversial research conclusions (e.g., with ostracism, public shaming).

More evidence for closet hereditarians. In a sample of 433 US academic psychologists, 29% had at least 50% confidence in the statement, 'Genetic differences explain non-trivial ... variance in race differences in intelligence test scores.' And 9% had at least 80% confidence.

While this woman lacks situational awareness and describes the situation in a kinda funny way- you have to admire her resilience. Lots of women would crumble while being interviewed about something much less unpleasant or violating.
(a guy ejaculated on her at Whole Foods)

Joseph Bronski This example shows how a complex mechanism can evolve rapidly.

Evolutionary psychologists have argued against recent evolution in mind and behavior because anything new would take too long to evolve. But you can get rapid evolution by changing the timing of an existing mechanism

Washington DC is shrinking the amount of available daycare and increasing its price by mandating workers have a degree in early childhood education. Their rationalization is that only college educated daycare workers can help disadvantaged children climb out of poverty.

'Most people know next to nothing about how the food they consume is produced. The only difference between the process used to generate lab-grown meat is that it is novel. And since all the artificial means we use to enhance our diet were once novel, this is hardly a good reason

To settle in the UK you need to take a 'Life in the UK' test, which goes on and on about how free speech is a core British value.

But in reality there is almost no protection for free speech in the UK and you can be sent to prison for being an offensive asshole.

Odd situation!

I'm told the strength/validity of any position is determined by its ability to predict outcomes... With this in mind, I submit the following:

Within the next five years, reducing the elderly population will be reframed as an unquestionably moral necessity.

A black man steps into a crowd, pulls out a gun and shoots 20 other black people at a Second Line jazz parade in New Orleans.

One of the victims, a professional racial justice activist, gravely wounded, issues a statement: “How could white people do this to us?”

I am grateful for water.

If water was a rare gem, it would be considered one of the most beautiful.

The way it sparkles.

The way it feels.

The way it smells.

I am grateful for dandelions.

If dandelions were a rare flower, they would be considered one of the most

Does demographic diversity improve team performance? If it did, we would expect greater diversity on sports teams and in marriages.
