Here, Crisis Group details the hellish ongoing showdown over El Fasher in 's North Darfur.

We call for more concerted efforts to de-escalate the situation, mediate safe passage for trapped civilians, and get aid to starving Darfuris.

'The selflessness of Dr Benaga, the political maturity of Mohammed Yahya and the quiet confidence of Rasheed Ahmed have stayed with me. Even as the warlords are dismembering their country, these people are working to rebuild it from the bottom up.'

'In thirty-five years of reporting from Sudan I have covered civil wars, floods, famines, droughts and dictatorship. But this time, when Sudan is in many ways in a worse state than ever, I left with just a glimmer of hope.' A must-read from Lindsey Hilsum

Protest needs only to be peaceful, incl some level of disruption, not lawful to fall within the protection of the ECHR/HRA

If that weren’t so, states could render protest outwith that protection by, say, enacting a law that permitted them only on weekdays 10-12

New Human Rights Watch research: Sudan’s warring parties’ recent unlawful attacks in North Darfur’s El Fasher have killed hundreds of civilians and forced tens of thousands to flee, as thousands in and around the city face starvation hrw.org/news/2024/06/1…

My latest on following my trip to eastern Chad.

Sudanese refugees are now fleeing Darfur due to hunger and famine, not just armed-conflict.

A man so malnourished he can no longer walk; women boiling leaves to feed their families; Sudanese-run food kitchens staving off starvation. Over the last couple of weeks on Newsday we’ve focused on the famine facing . Some of those stories are here bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Very scary rhetoric.

This person below is writing in Arabic that 'there are no citizens existing in al-Fasher,' thereby suggesting that all civilians are targets.

Saving Sudan from a devastating famine is made even more difficult when strategic starvation tactics have been projected to set the country’s agricultural development and research back by decades.

Who will hold them to account? Who will hold to account the UAE, Britain's ally, which arms and supports the Rapid Support Forces - قوات الدعم السريع which reportedly carried out these killings?

'Sudan is on a trajectory today towards the worst famine for four decades or longer' Alex de Waal tells Newsday. He says what's different from previous famines is it will affect the whole country - and see catastrophic numbers of child deaths.

How the socialist government of a country of migrants, with a century-old tradition of hospitality became complicit in the imprisonment of innocent people by its former colonial master + managed to sell this as 'European values' is v revealing about both Europe & socialism atm.
