Henry Finkler used to own the land that became Edgewood. He was secretary to the State Supreme Court and state champion in high wheel bicycling. Believing Redwood City had the perfect climate, he got the Chamber of Commerce to name it "Climate Best by Government Test." #SMCParks

At one time, the land that would become Edgewood was slated to become a college and golf course. It was also popular for off road vehicles. Environmentalists were trying to protect the biodiverse land, and in 1993 it was declared a Natural Preserve. #SMCParks #ThrowbackThursday

The ospreys are back at Coyote Point Recreation Area. 99% of an osprey's diet is live fish, and they have special barbs on their feet to hold on to their slippery catches. They prefer to hunt in shallow waters, since they are unable to dive deeper than three feet. #SMCParks

Pillar Point Bluff was once used for livestock grazing, as a whaling station in the 1800s, and by rumrunners during Prohibition. During World War II, the Half Moon Bay Airport was constructed to be used as a base for fighter jets and patrol aircraft. #SMCParks #ThrowbackThursday
