There's constant fear when working with pro-democracy leaders in authoritarian countries like #Uganda. Worst fears came true today when our friend Bobi Wine (BOBI WINE) was assaulted, allegedly shot by Ugandan police. Being an opposition leader is not and should not be a crime.

According to #Uganda police, Bobi Wine (BOBI WINE) 'sustained injuries ... [as he] stumbled while getting into his vehicle.' A thuggish and thoroughly shameless regime.

As you can hear in this recording, there was a clear order to "SHOOT HIM" before our President ⁦⁦BOBI WINE⁩ was shot! No amount of lies can cover up for this criminal action. Their intention was clear. - Admin

Bobi Wine (BOBI WINE), #Uganda's most prominent pro-democracy advocate, was shot today by the police. A timely moment to re-up this piece I wrote four years ago. It is past due for Washington to stop bankrolling and supporting the Museveni dictatorship. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2020/…

Update from Bobi Wine: He remains in the hospital, but has been stabilized. Tomorrow morning, he will have fragments removed from the injured leg, the result of being shot by #Uganda police today. This is just the latest assault on peaceful Ugandans who yearn for a better life.

For those who want to read the full complaint filed with the International Criminal Court in 2021, see our Vanguard Africa website. Predictably, BOBI WINE was also assaulted during the press conference announcing the filing, which you can also see here: vanguardafrica.com/news/2021/1/7/…

We are proud to sign this letter with Platform for African Democrats following the shooting of BOBI WINE in #Uganda. Governments and businesses that aid the Museveni dictatorship must stand up and be heard as the regime continues to violate human rights. vanguardafrica.com/blog/2024/9/5/…
