Really cool to see this project progress & have the support and opportunity to continue studying circuits underlying naturalistic behaviors 🐭 also fun to reflect on my postdoctoral training and how far I’ve come! Excited to keep pushing this forward with an amazing team & mentor

This #TraineeTuesday, meet Stephanie Staszko, PhD, Postdoctoral Associate in Al Kaye's lab! The team has recently received funding from National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) to study the noradrenergic mechanisms underlying mice's innate fear of heights, based on a project Stephanie has been leading. Happy to see this out in Neuron. Huikun Wang, a staff scientist in our lab, demonstrates that ventromedial prefrontal cortical dynorphin signaling constrains threat-driven passive defensive behavior and switches in network states. Thread below. cell.com/neuron/abstrac…

This #TraineeTuesday, we are introducing Aakash Basu Aakash Basu, a graduate student in @kayelab! He has recently published a manuscript in Biological Psychiatry on the role of norepinephrine in the frontal cortex in encoding a threat prediction signal.🥳 [1/5]

It was such a good time participating in YaleOpenLabs Flipped Science Fair! I got to present my work to middle schoolers who were full of insightful questions 🧠

Congratulations to Aakash Basu , who received his NIMH NRSA to support his innovative research on norepinephrine and second messenger system optical imaging in threat prediction! His recent paper was recently published which used GRAB sensors and RL models to understand NE

Many female academics are told not to apply for promotions, fellowships, grants, because they aren’t ready or won’t get the position. We need to be encouraging women to go for it. Don’t believe everything people tell you about you. Believe in yourself 1st. #AcademicChatter

Looking forward to my very first GRS/GRC this weekend and making new connections GRC Frontal Cortex🧠 and the opportunity to present my work at the GRS on Saturday. Please reach out if you're interested in threat, innate behaviors, or (my first love) the insula!

Such a treat to meet up with some of the first people to teach me about science (10 years later and 1,200 miles away 🏍️) I sought out Dr. Sufka as a freshman at the advice of my academic advisor and knew right away I wanted to work in his lab. The rest is history 🧠
