This one's personal. Hastings Coach Dwight Thomas looks through the Tigers' cedar equipment boxes while preparing for the 1934 football season. I used those same boxes when I coached the Hastings 8th grade from 1990-1997! In that same Manual Arts Gym equipment room!

The Halloween Blizzard of 1991 forced many changes in the prep football schedule. Columbus and Papillion-LaVista played a first-round playoff game at Memorial Stadium. So did Westside and Alliance.

New Cozad Schools gym is pretty sharp!

Bradshaw volleyball, 1947. After the schools outlawed girls basketball in 1927, volleyball was often played before the boys basketball game, primarily at smaller schools.

Word has reached us of the death of Fremont coaching legend Jon Appleget. An institution in Fremont, the Tigers' track facility is named in his honor. He was a 1955 Beatrice grad; here he is competing in the pole vault and on the basketball court. RIP buff.ly/47aXY7v

Very cool! Elkhorn High and Hall of Fame Coach Gene. Kruger played a big role in the growth of 8-man football in the state... and then outgrew it.
