As I wrote in my report on Sentinel, if you project costs out to a different year (i.e. 2050 or 2100), then you likely get a different result (life-extending MMIII being cheaper than pursuing Sentinel ASAP). Yet they keep sticking with 2070/2075 instead. man.fas.org/eprint/siloed-…

Condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew him. From our first meeting, in the hall in front of the CD in Geneva, Amb Duarte was thoughtfully looking for ways to eliminate the dangers posed by nuclear weapons- primarily by eliminating the weapons. He will be missed.

The Pentagon's press release on Sentinel (left) is a near copy-paste of the Nunn-McCurdy law itself (right), providing no additional detail, explanation, or evidence for these requirements.

By sharing their first-hand experiences of the atomic bombings of #Hiroshima & #Nagasaki, members of the #hibakusha, such as Setsuko Thurlow, remind us of the catastrophic & inhumane effects of nuclear weapons. #stillhere #neveragain #cranesforourfuture youtube.com/watch?v=_RszjR…

At #Paris2024 France is promoting sporting values such as respect, listening, and legality. It must adopt the same attitude within the framework of the #NuclearBan by becoming at least an observer State. @ICANFrance ICAN app.sosha.ai/s/nfNy4swY

79 years ago today the first atomic bomb was dropped over Hiroshima, instantly killing tens of thousands of the city's inhabitants. Setsuko Thurlow, then 13, was one of the city's survivors. In 2017 she jointly accepted the #NobelPeacePrize in Oslo on behalf of ICAN.

The nuclear bomb that was dropped on Hiroshima had a yield of 15 kilotons. It killed 140,000 people. Today, people would call it "a small nuclear weapon". Let's make it clear: there is no such thing as a 'small' nuclear weapon 👇🏽

Excellent piece in today's The New York Times hearing from survivors of the bombings of Hiroshima & Nagasaki- and a tiny push to so Smithsonian doesn't avoid the truth of the indiscriminate nature of nuclear weapons at it's exhibition nytimes.com/interactive/20… #nuclearban

📍 Hiroshima, Japan This is a stark reminder of the nuclear devastation that claimed 140,000 lives 79 years ago. We stand firm against nuclear weapons.

“Suggesting that the United States pursue a scheme that is as unworkable now as it was 40 years ago clearly demonstrates that the Heritage report is mired in the past, even as it claims to be putting forward a future-focused plan.” Great piece by William Hartung

This analysis of the pictorial media landscape on nuclear weapons is really important- by only showing pictures of the bombs and not the people & places they are designed to destroy- we make them seem okay. Nuclear weapons are not okay. Let's change the story.
