All things transit related in Southwestern Ontario, and only transit, we’ll maybe a little bit of land use too. Opinions my own. Managed by Matthew Peloza.

Things the ON gov. has done to make driving easier, they must really hate the planet. Removed annual vehicle license fees Removed tolls from highways 413/418 Accelerated building the 413 and Bradford bypass. Numerous highway widenings Cancelling drive clean Reducing the gas tax

Drivers beware: London is more than doubling the number of red-light cameras at intersections across the city. Beatriz Baleeiro has all the details ➡️ tinyurl.com/24ceuda3 #ldnont

Return to office is less than a net zero impact on business recovery. Yes, downtown services and merchants but at the expense of merchants closer to home. Plus with less time and money spent commuting there is more of both to support more local busonesses.

Long distance routes through low density areas really fill a map, and they’re important routes, but the real driver of change is in connecting large, close together cities to each other, replacing dozens of regional flights and thousands of car trips.

One of the great things going on in Toronto right now is the ‘next’ needed transit route is in planning before the last one is even open. We need more of that around here. Need to start planning what happens next after 2 legs of BRT are built or else it will come too late.

Almost daily somewhere I see a bad take of ‘cyclists should be insured’. Mandated driver insurance covers risk or property loss and personal injury to others. The actual damage you can cause riding a bike is only marginally more than a pedestrian. Annoyance does not equal risk.

This is a multi-billion dollar boondoggle. Yes it will end up with lots of traffic, but there are other, better, cheaper, and less environmentally damaging means to improve traffic flow around the GTA and access more housing potential.

Unpopular opinion of today. All 400 series highways should be fully tolled, not 407 type tolls but like $5-$10 for London to Toronto. Would create real pressure to get rail projects going, fill a lot of revenue shortfalls, and reduce cars and congestion on our highways.

At some point we have to admit that our Greenbelts are failed policies. The policy was designed to limit urban sprawl, and yes they protect ecologically sensitive areas but they also resulted in material leap-frog development to areas that deserve protection too.

How anyone could see the extent of the destruction of the land the tar-sands has caused first hand and not instantly become an advocate for decarbonization is beyond my comprehension.

History lesson. 400 series speed limits were lowered to 100kph in the 70s to conserve fuel. Raising them back up and promoting faster speeds that are less fuel efficient is yet another example that this government doesn’t take climate change serious.

BREAKING NEWS: Metrolinx has acquired land west of Mount Pleasant GO station to build a flyover to bring up to 15 minute GO train service to Kitchener. This flyover, which would separate CN freight trains and GO trains, removes the major barrier for 2WADGO to Kitchener.

For those that say London bike lanes don't get used, as the network expands usage is up on the existing network. July 2024 saw 6 of 10 London's active Eco-counter sites show their busiest bike counts ever. Sites active both this and last year are up 9.1% vs July 2023.
