Following Andrew Thornton Old Contemptibles talk at Great War Huts on Wednesday, I found this programme amongst my stuff. It’s from the Festival of Remembrance and Rededication at White Rock Theatre theatre in Hastings in 1971. The Chums marched in to ‘The Boys of The Old Brigade’!

It’s not every day you see a photograph of a First World War veteran holding an ouija board. So naturally, as a fan of horror and history, this piqued my interest… 🧵 1/

With all the recent interest in Churchill, I would always recommend William Manchester’s work. The final paragraph of The Last Lion tell you all you need to know about the road to war 🦁🇬🇧

That’s it - my last day in the Army after 34 years of service (and 43 in uniform - from Cadet to Colonel). Thank you to everyone who made it such an amazing experience. So many memories and people to thank - but above all my wife and family. It’s been an honour and privilege.

I am very sorry to hear that Major Tonie Holt has died. He and Valmai have been great supporters of the Khaki Chums since we first met them at 6am on a very misty 1st July in the Newfoundland Memorial Park. The interest they rekindled in battlefield touring is their legacy.

I was going to write something very similar after I got the news last night but Taff's final sentence says everything I wanted to say. They were a dynamic duo. We will miss Tonie very much but not half as much as Valmai will! A lifetime of service to 'their' veterans #Resurgam

Taff I have just had the most marvellous couple of hours of Khaki Chums reminiscing. Some great things you lads did Taff. Full of terrific characters also. Top stuff 🙂
