LSU ace Paul Skenes gets taken No. 1 overall to the Pirates. He's the 6th player, and first pitcher, to win Most Outstanding Player at the MCWS and go No. 1 overall in the MLB Draft. Skenes joins Phil Nevin (1992) as the only players to do both in the same year.

Some fun facts: ⚾️ Both Ekness and Ellwanger are their respective school’s first MLB draft pick since 2020. ⚾️ Ekness is the 17th Highlander pitcher drafted. ⚾️ Ellwanger is the fourth Mustang drafted in program history. All four are pitchers.

It’s weird to me that during player intros, they didn’t flash an on-screen graphic with the names of the reserves. Nor did the PA announcer say their position. There’s no way a casual fan is going to know who all these guys are without a little help.
